On Thursday, July 19 my husband and I drove to Madison for my meeting with the manager of the Madison West Marriott Hotel. As I mentioned in the last Newsletter, when I called to make the appointment, he told me the hotel was in the middle of a major renovation and quite a MESS. He was correct! There were jack hammers in the lobby and everything in the lobby area was in disarray! He then told us that it would be completed by August 31. I think they must be working day and night. But- it will be beautiful. Everything new- including the most up to date electronic equipment. The room renovation- bedding and decorating will be done the summer of 2008. So- by June 26, 27, 28, 2009, the hotel should be quite wonderful. I confirmed with him the nightly rate he had given me last summer, and it still is $112/night. There would be a choice of a room with either two double beds or a king size bed. All the rooms have high speed internet access and cable TV. There is an indoor swimming pool and a complete fitness center with whirlpool. We talked about other hotels in the area. The $112/night is such a good rate for a Marriott Hotel that I doubt anyone would find a comparable quality for a lower rate. But there are others. Get on the internet and look at Middleton, Wisconsin (a suburb of Madison). I think there is a Comfort Inn, a Holiday Inn, and several others close by. The Web address for the Marriott is: HYPERLINK "http://www.marriottmadisonwest.com/" www.marriottmadisonwest.com I doubt if the renovation pictures will be on the website until later in the fall. It is a Marriott Hotel policy not to accept room reservations until fifty weeks before the event. So, in mid-July of 2008 I will remind you that you can then make your reservations, and give you any directions that they give us for making the reservation. I really do think that staying at the Gathering headquarters hotel is a plus for getting to know more attendees, and being close to the bus transportation to the planned events. Many of the events will not be in the city of Madison, and we will be bused from the Marriott. Mineral Point is where many of the Cornish settlers lived. Every September, it has a Cornish Festival. Our planning committee will attend the festival at the end of this September and set more definitely the schedule of events for the Gathering. I will send you another Newsletter in October outlining the schedule In the meantime if you want to communicate with me or have questions: HYPERLINK "mailto:goninangathering@aol.com" goninangathering@aol.com Previous Newsletters can be found on HYPERLINK "http://www,goninangathering.com/" http://www.goninangathering.com -Newsletter Archive. As I mentioned in the last Newsletter, when I called to make the appointment, he told me the hotel was in the middle of a major renovation and quite a MESS. He was correct! There were jack hammers in th e lobby and everything in the lobby area was in disarray! He then told us that it would be completed by August 31. I think they must be working day and night. But- it will be beautiful. Everything new- including the most up to date electronic equipment. Th e room renovation- bedding and decorating will be done the summer of 2008. So- by June 26, 27, 28, 2009, the hotel should be quite wonderful. \par \par I confirmed with him the nightly rate he had given me last summer, and it still is $112/night. There would be a ch oice of a room with either two double beds or a king size bed. All the rooms have high speed internet access and cable TV. There is an indoor swimming pool and a complete fitness center with whirlpool. \par \par We talked about other hotels in the area. The $1 12/night is such a good rate for a Marriott Hotel that I doubt anyone would find a comparable quality for a lower rate. But there are others. Get on the internet and look at Middleton, Wisconsin (a suburb of Madison). I think there is a Comfort Inn, a Hol iday Inn, and several others close by. The Web address for the Marriott is: \par }{\field\fldedit{\*\fldinst {\insrsid9135389 HYPERLINK "http://www.marriottmadisonwest.com/" }}{\fldrslt {\cs15\ul\cf2\insrsid9135389 www.marriottmadisonwest.com}}}{\insrsid9135389 I doubt if the renovation pictures will be on the website until later in the fall. \par \par It is a Marriott Hotel policy not to accept room reservations until fifty weeks before the event. So, in mid-July of 2008 I will remind you that you can then make your reservations, and give you any directions that they give us for making the reservation. \par \par I really do think that staying at the \'93Gathering headquarters hotel\'94 is a plus for getting to know more attendees, and being close to the bus transportation to the planned events. Many of the events will not be in the city of Madison, and we will be bused from the Marriott. \par \par Mineral Point is where many of the Cornish settlers lived. Every September, it has a Cornish Festival. Our planning committee will attend the festival at the end of this September and set more definitely the schedule of events for the Ga thering. I will send you another Newsletter in October outlining the schedule \par \par In the meantime if you want to communicate with me or have questions: \par }{\field\fldedit{\*\fldinst {\insrsid9135389 HYPERLINK "mailto:goninangathering@aol.com" }}{\fldrslt {\cs15\ul\cf2\insrsid9135389 goninangathering@aol.com}}}{\insrsid9135389 \par Previous Newsletters can be found on }{\field\fldedit{\*\fldinst {\insrsid9135389 HYPERLINK "http://www,goninangathering.com/" }}{\fldrslt {\cs15\ul\cf2\insrsid9135389 http://www.goninangathering.com}}}{\insrsid9135389 -Newsletter Archive. \par \par Sincerely, \par \tab Janet Sipes \par \par Other items:- \par \par }{\b\fs28\insrsid9135389 Early references to Goninans (spellings as recorded):- \par }{\insrsid9135389 \par }{\b\insrsid9135389 Breage Parish Church:- \par \par Burials:- \par 1582}{\insrsid9135389 Jeneta uxor Johis Gonenan (this is in latin and translates, I think, to Janet or Jane wife of John Gonenan; this is the earliest reference found to a Goninan and thanks go to Trevor Goninan for spotting this recently) \par \par }{\b\insrsid9135389 10th October 1639}{\insrsid9135389 Willmott Goninnin daughter of Peter (apparantly Willmott was the female version of the name William) \par \par }{\b\insrsid9135389 Baptisms:- \par 3rd October 1633}{\insrsid9135389 Thomas Gonynyn son of Petri and Margaretae \par \par }{\b\insrsid9135389 Marriages:- \par 27th November}{\insrsid9135389 }{\b\insrsid9135389 1686}{\insrsid9135389 Loudy Goninan and Enoch Mager \par \par }{\b\insrsid9135389 Seating Plan \par }{\insrsid9135389 There is a seating plan for Breage Church dated }{\b\insrsid9135389 12th May 1666}{\insrsid9135389 which has the following names:- \par \tab Peter Goninnon \par \tab Blanch Goninnion \par \tab Margt Goninnon \par \par }{\b\insrsid9135389 Protestations \par }{\insrsid9135389 The protestations were a way of making people demonstrate their loyalty to the Crown, Parliament and the Church of England (as against the Church of Rome).
